ACTIVE AFFIRMATION CLUSTER

I concentrate all my energies on a limited set of targets. I fully understand that concentration and focus are the magic keys that open the door to accomplishment. When my physical and mental resources are focused and ready, my power to solve problems multiplies... Elizabeth Bohorquez, RN, C.Ht

WHAT'S THIS ABOUT...

At the present time I'm working on a thoughtWARE book that addresses the planting of affirmations, alone & in clusters utilizing original programs of Interactive Self-Hypnosis. Affirmations are mini-mind programs that can pack a lot of power in one or a few sentences. When they are attached to emotionalized, active imagery or metaphor, they become even more powerful.

The affirmation cluster for today is all about inner organization, making choices, focus and aim. These are key issues for just about everyone. I don't know anyone who doesn't have too much on their platter, but having a full platter doesn't necessarily mean burn-out. Just this week I met 22 patients with full platters, and most not managing them well, if at all. I'd like to introduce you to two women, different ages, experiencing totally different problems, but both needing the same affirmation cluster.

Jennie has anorexia and other disorderly eating issues. She's a college sophmore, with lots to do and every day she raises her hand, volunteering for more. Becoming over-committed is a part of her compulsive behavior. Unfortunately, she tends to forget to eat, despite the fact she knows that if she doesn't control her weight, she will be asked to leave school.

Andy is newly divorced, and while finally ready to expand her horizons, she can't keep a focus on what she wants to accomplish. Her runaway thoughts are keeping her highly stressed and anxious, in addition interfering with sleep. According to Andy, she felt better when she was in her numb and disconnected state with her ex-husband.

Below I'll work with both Jennie and Andy. We'll plant the affirmation cluster, connecting it up with hot emotional imagery.

If you are new to hypnosis, do know that anyone can work hypnotically. In actual fact, we tend to be in self-imposed hypnosis all day long. In therapeutic hypnosis, we work to de-hypnotize ourselves and then transcend into the mind-state and image of what we want, instead of what we don't want. If you haven't experienced this before, here are few complimentary mp3 downloads. Each is a full interactive self-hypnosis session & part of a complete 2-3 track series. Each are filled with active imagery & affirmations.

If you're following my blog/workshop and haven't downloaded the above programs, you might want to do so. I'll be changing them over the weekend.

PLANTING AN ACTIVE AFFIRMATION

Let's go ahead and plant the cluster. We always begin by reading it out loud or slowly to ourselves. Prepare to spend some "real time" with yourself. Planting on the fly is not the way to go.

I concentrate all my energies on a limited set of targets. I fully understand that concentration and focus are the magic keys that open the door to accomplishment. When my physical and mental resources are focused and ready, my power to solve problems multiplies...

Let's begin by relaxing into the moment and welcoming the mind-state of positive intention. We all have chemically-based memory for mind-states, and positive intention is a powerful state unto itself. Locate a time in the past when you really wanted to do something, and no matter what blocks appeared, you remained determined to do this particular thing. Once you locate that memory, tune into the feelings that accompany the memory or images. That is positive intention. Now I'd like you to simply sense it, bringing it into our affirmational planting exercise.

Deepen your trance state just a bit. No need to go beyond the alpha or slow-brain-wave state. It's easy to do this. I like to do a quick body scan, noticing body areas and then bringing my focus back to my breath. I also like to sense magnets pulling me down and back into the chair where I'm resting.

We're ready now. Locate the mind-screen. While you can do this with your eyes opened, I prefer them to be closed and so finish reading the exercise and then proceed to close your eyes. As you know, the mind-screen is right behind your gently closed lids. This is where you program what you want.

Today I'd like you to climb up into the mind screen. You'll find yourself in a field that is filled with archery targets......I'm sure you're familiar with the bulls-eye image. There is a target for each thing you want to achieve. Obviously there are too many targets. I'd like you to choose no more than four targets. Move the other ones way over to the side. You're not getting rid of them, just moving them. I think it's a good idea to make sure that one target represents your health and wellness. This is very important for both of my clients above. I honestly don't know anyone who wouldn't need this particular target to be permanently present.

Notice that the four targets appear bigger and clearer now. It's going to be easier to hit them with your arrows. Your archery coach is bringing your bow and arrows. Listen carefully........the fewer targets, the more powerful your arrows. As you learn this, you might even consider removing one target. Think about it....

The coach is explaining that each target is filled with answers to questions, solutions, gifts, insights and serendipities related to the specific target.

Even if you've never practiced archery, you will find yourself very talented in hypnotic trance. Choose your first target. Place the arrow on the bow .....locate the area where you want the arrow to hit the target...study it....steady now.....aim carefully.....sensing the focus....pull back now....re-focus....sensing.....shoot.

Observe as the arrow goes directly into the center of the bulls-eye, opening it and sending out the answers to questions, solutions, gifts, insights and serendipities related to the specific target. Go ahead, take this basket and pick them up. You can arrange them on the table over there.

When you have finished, if you like, go ahead with the second target, although it's not really necessary. Your subconscious mind already knows about the other targets and will allow you access to the inner gifts.
